Proud to play our part in this year’s Big Build for Children in Need
Working alongside our partners Project Better Energy and Project Solar, we were delighted to join in this year's DIY SOS ‘Big Build’ for Children in Need by funding solar panels for the headquarters of fantastic Leeds-based Charity 'Getaway Girls'.
Getaway Girls has been empowering young girls to learn new skills and grow in confidence for 35 years. Its new headquarters, provided by the amazing DIY SOS team, allows the charity to offer many more young women spaces for creativity and learning, as well as counselling, practical support, and companionship. The excellent new space comes complete with a creche, music and media studio, counselling rooms, office space, kitchen, garden and more!
Tandem was proud to play its part in the build. Not only will solar panels allow the Getaway Girls’ headquarters to generate its own green energy, but they will also minimise the charity's carbon impact and significantly reduce its energy costs in the long run. Which means more money directed towards the fantastic work the charity does to support young girls.
Why solar could be the answer
Did you know that buildings are the second highest C02 emitter in the UK? Research shows that the average domestic solar panel system could save an average household roughly £500 and 0.78 tonnes of C02 annually [1]. That’s the equivalent of planting 31 trees per year! [2]
