Tandem Bank, the UK’s greener digital bank, has been recognised for the second year in a row in the Sunday Times Best Places to Work list, in the Big Organisation category. This annual nationwide survey celebrates the UK’s top employers based on employee feedback and wellbeing.
The last year saw Tandem ramp up its focus on culture, learning and employee voice. Its ‘One Bank’ approach helped align people and priorities across teams and locations, while key initiatives enhanced collaboration and inclusivity.
In March, Tandem launched a dedicated Women in Leadership week, celebrating the bank’s female leaders, coinciding with International Women’s Day. The bank’s apprenticeship programme also grew by60%, supporting career development and skills growth across the business.
The bank’s culture continues to be shaped by inclusivity campaigns, from Pride and Black History Month to Menopause Awareness, as well as the launch of its People Council, an employee-led forum driving ESG and social impact initiatives from the ground up.
Tandem’s charity work remains rooted in community. Colleagues selected causes close to home and together volunteered over 138,000 minutes in 2024/25 for charities including The Boathouse Youth, The Felix Project, Foundation 92 and the Salvation Army. Every colleague receives two paid volunteering days to support their offices local charity and in return receives additional time off as a reward for giving back to their communities.
With a key focus on employee health and wellbeing, Tandem offers resources around mental health first aiders, female menstrual health and menopause champions, volunteering and greener living, with incentives such as an EV salary sacrifice scheme and energy bill credits or supermarket vouchers for standout contributors.
In partnership with its charity partner, Trees for Life, Tandem plants a tree for every new starter and invites employees to join its Green Deal – 214 colleagues have joined so far, pledging to plant a tree and switch to renewable electricity at home.
In addition, employees are granted an extra day’s leave for using renewable energy at home, receive discounts of up to £1,500 on solar panels and are eligible for £500 towards an electric-vehicle home chargepoint.
Commenting on the recognition, Tandem’s Chief People Officer, Catherine Diamond said: “To be recognised in the Sunday Times Best Place to Work list for the second year on the bounce is something we’re seriously proud of. What makes it even better is that it’s based on direct feedback from our fantastic team. We’ve worked really hard to build a culture that’s inclusive, empowering and positive. This recognition tells us we’re getting it right and is as a testament to the passion, care and commitment of every member of the Tandem team.”
