Twenty-seven colleagues from across Tandem Bank laced up their walking boots to take on the Macmillan Mighty Hike in the Peak District, completing an incredible 26-mile challenge in support of people living with cancer.
The event brought together more than 1,800 participants, all united by a common goal: raising vital funds to help Macmillan Cancer Support continue providing clinical care as well as practical, emotional and financial support to people living with cancer and their families.
Before the team had even reached the start line, they had already surpassed their ambitious fundraising target of £7,000. Thanks to the incredible generosity of colleagues, friends, family and supporters, together with Tandem's employee matched funding initiative and The Green Deal – which rewards colleagues for taking positive action to support sustainability and their local communities – the team has now raised more than £12,000 for Macmillan. Together, these initiatives reflect Tandem's commitment to creating a positive impact through its people and ESG strategy.
The team's fundraising efforts have seen Team Tandem recognised among the event's top fundraisers – a fantastic achievement that reflects the generosity, determination and community spirit shown by everyone involved. While the fundraising total is something to celebrate, the day itself was equally memorable. Covering 26 miles through the Peak District tested both physical and mental endurance, but throughout the challenge, colleagues encouraged one another every step of the way, demonstrating the teamwork, determination and community spirit that are central to Tandem's culture.
Among those taking part was James Streeter, Tandem's Head of Sustainability, who completed the 26-mile challenge alongside his colleagues. Reflecting on the day, he said:
"Having completed the hike alongside so many colleagues, I couldn't be prouder of what we've achieved together. Covering 26 miles certainly tested us, but the support, encouragement and camaraderie throughout the day made every step worthwhile.
One of the things I'm most proud of at Tandem is the willingness of our people to come together behind causes that matter. To have raised more than £12,000 with the support of Tandem's matched funding and The Green Deal is an incredible achievement. Every donation will help Macmillan continue providing vital support to people living with cancer and their families. A huge thank you to everyone who walked, donated and cheered the team on."
Events like the Mighty Hike are about far more than crossing a finish line. They provide an opportunity to come together behind a cause that has touched so many lives while making a tangible difference to a charity that supports millions of people across the UK every year.
Everyone at Tandem is incredibly proud of the 27 colleagues who took on the challenge, as well as the many people who donated, cheered the team on and helped make this achievement possible.
